DESCRIPTION

Trekkers is an outdoor-based mentoring program that serves 7th-12th grade students from six communities in Midcoast Maine. Using a unique, six-year mentoring model, Trekkers utilizes expeditionary learning, environmental education, community service, adventure-based education and career-college readiness programming to build supportive relationships between young people and caring adults. All programs are focused on increasing students’ self-esteem, fostering valuable life skills and improving comprehensive resiliency outcomes.

Since the organization’s start in 1994, communities, organizations and youth workers, in and out-of-state, expressed interest in learning more about Trekkers’ mentoring model and its emphasis on the power of relationship building in changing the lives of young people. In 2016, the Trekkers Training Institute was launched in partnership with the Emmanuel & Pauline A.
